Carli Lloyd was sent off minutes from time as Manchester City trounced Yeovil Town 5-1 in the Women’s Super League 1 Spring Series.
Goals from Jane Ross (2), Jill Scott and Kosovare Asllani as well as an own goal secured the points, but the victory was marred as the FIFA World Player of the Year was shown a straight red card for violent conduct after a clash with Annie Heatherson, who was left prone on the ground.
If a three-match ban is confirmed, Lloyd will only be available for one more match before the end of the Spring Series.
City are now up to third in the table, level on points with second-placed Chelsea, who also had an excellent win as they thrashed Sunderland 7-0.

England striker Fran Kirby came on as a second-half substitute and scored twice, adding her goals to those of Erin Cuthbert (2), Karen Carney, Maren Mjelde and Ramona Bachmann.
Substitute Louise Quinn made the difference for Arsenal against Birmingham City at the Hive, scoring twice late on to secure a 4-2 win after the visitors had taken an early lead courtesy of new signing Rachel Williams.
Heather O’Reilly levelled it up at the end of the first-half, but Williams put the Blues ahead again before new signing Quinn struck her double in the closing stages.
In the weekend’s other WSL1 match, Bristol City and Liverpool drew 1-1.
