Player of the Week: Olivier Giroud (Arsenal)

Despite having a number of players missing because of injury, Arsenal managed to get a 3-0 win in Greece against Olympiacos on Wednesday night that took them through to the last-16 of the Champions League, and their hero was striker Olivier Giroud. The in-form Frenchman netted all three of his side’s goals – his first hat-trick for the Gunners – in a brilliant all-round performance.

Team of the Week: Arsenal

After losing their opening two group games to Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiacos, Arsene Wenger’s side were always facing an uphill task to qualify for the knockout stages – something they had done every year since the new format was introduced in the 2003/04 season. They went into their final group game in Greece knowing they had to win by two goals, and despite having a number of first-team stars absent through injury, in the end they achieved a 3-0 success with relative ease.
