One of this summer’s most talked about transfer sagas came to an end on Monday as Chelsea completed the signing of Moises Caicedo from Brighton and Hove Albion.

The midfielder had been a target for the Blues, as well as Arsenal, back in January but stayed put on the south coast for the past six months.

He has been chased by Chelsea for much of the summer, but last week it looked like he may have been heading to Anfield as Liverpool made a staggering £111 million offer for the player.

The Ecuador international was intent on a move to Stamford Bridge, though, and duly completed his move to West London for a British record transfer fee of £115 million.

Now, it appears that Chelsea are closing in on yet another signing despite splashing out almost £900 million in the past year.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have activated Crystal Palace star Michael Olise’s release clause.

Olise looks set to join Chelsea in the coming days

The Frenchman impressed for the Eagles last year and has been linked with a move away from Selhurst Park for some time now.

Romano claims that the Blues have agreed to pay the £35 million clause included in Olise’s current contract, which is due to run until 2026.

Olise, 21, joined Palace from Championship side Reading back in 2021 and has since made a total of 71 appearances for the Eagles across all competitions, scoring six goals and providing 19 assists.

It is also claimed that Olise has already agreed to join Chelsea, with all parties now working to finalise the deal.

So far this summer Chelsea have signed Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, Robert Sanchez and Caicedo, while no fewer than 12 senior players from last season have left the club.

Romelu Lukaku and Hakim Ziyech are also expected to depart Stamford Bridge between now and the closure of the transfer window.
