Chelsea have agreed personal terms with Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana and are now working to strike a deal with the Foxes, according to reports.
As reported by The Mail, the Blues have an agreement in place with the Frenchman, who started Leicester’s 4-2 defeat to Arsenal on Saturday afternoon.
It is claimed that Chelsea have already had two bids, worth £60 million and £65 million, rejected for the centre-back, with the Foxes holding out for at least £80 million.
Thomas Tuchel has been on the hunt for a central defender all summer having lost Andres Christensen and Antonio Rudiger at the end of last season.
Fofana may have played his final game for Leicester
Fofana has established himself as one of the Premier League’s best young defenders, and Leicester are therefore reluctant to let the 21-year-old leave.
The France youth international has five years remaining on his contract, meaning that his current employers are under very little pressure to sell.
If a move does materialise, Fofana could become the most expensive defender in football history, a record that is currently held by Harry Maguire.
Chelsea have already missed out on a number of defensive targets this summer including Matthijs de Ligt and Jules Kounde, but they are reportedly still working on other targets including RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol.
