Chelsea and Liverpool men feature in the Top 5 PL players who deserve the limelight – do you agree?

There has been plenty of talk about the superstars, the summer signings, and the youngsters making a good impression this season but what about the unsung heroes and those players that go largely unnoticed week in, week out?

Every team has a consistent performer that should always get a bit more recognition but these types of players tend to be left out of the limelight in place of players like Diego Costa, Mesut Ozil, Philippe Coutinho and Sergio Aguero.

Of course, there is good reason for this… Costa and Aguero are top of the goal scoring charts, Kevin De Bruyne and Coutinho have popped up with the most assists and Thibaut Courtois has earned the highest number of clean sheets with seven to his name.

However, we have to remember that football is a team game and, often, these players wouldn’t stand out as much were it not for those players who are also having quietly excellent seasons.

With that in mind, here are five Premier League players who deserve a bit more limelight for their efforts so far this season…

Junior Stanislas

Junior Stanislas may have only started 7 Premier League fixtures this season but he is already Bournemouth’s joint top goal scorer and has the joint highest amount of assists for Eddie Howe’s side. He has gone largely unnoticed so far but his team has averaged 1.86 points when he is in the starting eleven, compared to 0.4 when he has been absent.

Whilst the 26-year-old didn’t really impress last season, Stanislas is in tremendous form during this campaign and the Bournemouth boss will be hoping he continue this in their tough run of fixtures against Arsenal, Chelsea Leicester and Liverpool before the New Year.

Nathan Redmond

Nathan Redmond was one of the players to be relegated with Norwich City last season and so whilst you might think his morale may be low, his belief in his own ability remains strong. His transfer to Southampton over the summer seems to have worked out well for the 22-year-old and he has only missed 15 minutes of this campaign so far.

The winger-turned-striker in Claude Puel’s new system already has three goals to his name and he has learnt to play in this new role for the benefit of the rest of the team. He is beating opponents with ease, creating plenty of chances and has energy to burn. The England under-21 player is certainly one to watch out for.

James Milner

Liverpool’s James Milner is another player who has learnt to play in a new position this season. Having spent the majority of his career as a central midfielder, the 30-year-old has found prominence on the left side of defence, replacing Alberto Moreno in the starting line up.

As well as staking his claim as a defender to ensure the club don’t have to fork out in January, Milner also has four goals to his name as well as an assist. He has been solid in defence and is creating nearly two chances each game – which is significantly more than any other defender in Jurgen Klopp’s side.

David Silva

This season, David Silva has gone somewhat under the radar due to the outstanding performances of teammates Ilkay Gundogan, Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero. Like Milner and Redmond, the Spaniard has adapted his role this season under new boss Pep Guardiola in order to incorporate more attacking players.

The 30-year-old has featured in ten games for Manchester City and has been creating more than three chances per game, which is almost as many as West Ham’s Dimitri Payet and Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil. Despite the stand-out performers in the team, David Silva should definitely be receiving more recognition for his efforts.

Marcos Alonso

Despite being benched by Antonio Conte in the two opening Premier League games of the season, Marcos Alonso is now one of the first names on the team sheet. His performances really have deserved more recognition and it is evident that the club’s turn in form corresponded with the 25-year-old breaking into the team.

Chelsea have won every game that the Spaniard has started and they hadn’t conceded a goal with Alonso on the pitch until yesterday’s 2-1 win over Tottenham.

The wing-back’s defensive and attacking duties are complementary of each other and this is highlighted through his contributions to Chelsea’s clean sheets, goals and assists.
