Xabi Alonso will begin life as Chelsea manager with a short trip to face Fulham on the opening weekend of the upcoming Premier League season.
The Spaniard was officially appointed as the Blues’ new boss in May, following the sacking of head coach Liam Rosenior in April.
Alonso has previously managed both Bayer Leverkusen and Real Madrid, although he had varying degrees of success.
In Germany, he guided Leverkusen to their first ever Bundesliga title, but in Madrid he was sacked after just six months in charge of Los Blancos.
Ahead of the start of the new season, it appears that Alonso and those in charge of Chelsea’s recruitment are already working hard, and the west London club are now reportedly eyeing a move for an American midfielder.
As per CaughtOffside, Chelsea are one of the clubs interested in Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams.
The 27-year-old is currently on international duty at the World Cup, representing co-hosts USA.
He has started both of their matches so far, helping Mauricio Pochettino’s side to progress through the group stages and into the last 32 of the competition.
According to the report, both Chelsea and Premier League rivals Manchester United are monitoring the central midfielder as they assess possible transfer targets in the middle of the park.
Adams joined the Cherries from Leeds United ahead of the 2023/24 season, and has since made more than 60 appearances for the south coast club across all competitions.
The report suggests that Bournemouth are reluctant to lose the midfielder this summer, as he has more than two years remaining on his contract, however a bid in the region of £30 million could be enough to persuade the Cherries to part ways with the American.
