Chelsea and Manchester United are reportedly ready to rival Bayern Munich in the race to sign £73million-rated Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain, according to TuttoMercatoWeb, via TransferMarketWeb.

With interest increasing from a number of clubs across Europe, the Serie A side are tempted to cash-in on their 28-year-old attacker during the summer, although they will demand a fee of more than £70million for the Argentina international.

That is a price that might not put United or Chelsea off though, with both teams set for another big summer of spending following disappointing campaigns, in which the duo will end with no trophies.

However, neither English outfit know if they will be able to offer the striker Champions League football because of their respective positions in the Premier League table.

Higuain has been in outstanding form for Napoli this term, scoring 30 goals in 37 appearances in all competitions, and he has 82 in 143 outings since making the move from Real Madrid in 2013.
