Chelsea recorded a second successive pre-season victory by beating Brighton and Hove Albion 4-3 on Sunday.

Goals from Christopher Nkunku, Mykhaylo Mudryk, Conor Gallagher and Nicolas Jackson ensured Mauricio Pochettino’s side overcame the Seagulls in the Premier League Summer Series in the USA.

Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Pochettino used the match to give several of his squad players some game time, while Thiago Silva and Levi Colwill were selected to start at centre-back.

The latter has been heavily linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in recent weeks, but Pochettino appears to have suggested that the youngster will be staying put.

As quoted by 90min, the Argentine has outlined his plan for the defender, amid speculation linking him with a move away.

“We don’t need to make a statement about anything,” he said following the game against Brighton.

“He’s our player and he’s going to continue with us.

Colwill has been the subject of interest from other clubs this summer

“I am happy with him, his performance was good today, better than what I expected because it’s only the first game with us after the season in Brighton.

“I think he can be one of the greatest centre-backs in England. He is going to be part of our team.”

Colwill, 19, spent last season on loan at Brighton and impressed during his first campaign in the Premier League.

The England under-21 international made 22 appearances across all competitions, but his performances attracted the interest of rivals Liverpool.

Despite the Reds’ interest in signing Colwill, Pochettino’s comments appear to have confirmed that the defender will stay put in London and be part of his squad for the upcoming season.

As well as Liverpool, Brighton were also said to be interested in signing Colwill permanently and had considered launching a £40 million offer for the Englishman, the report claims.

Colwill’s chances of featuring regularly under Pochettino next term may have increased following the news that Wesley Fofana will be sidelined for several months due to injury.
