Chelsea have completed the signing of full-back Caleb Wiley from MLS side Atlanta United.

The Blues announced on Monday that the 19-year-old had become their sixth signing of the summer so far.

Wiley follows Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Guiu, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Omari Kellyman and Renato Veiga through the door at Stamford Bridge, as the club’s American owners continue their high-spending approach.

The club announced that the teenager had signed a six-year deal with the club, with Chelsea also having the option to extend the contract by a further 12 months.

The left-back joined Atlanta as a youngster and progressed into their first team in 2022.

Chelsea have spent significant amounts of money on transfers since Todd Boehly took charge of the club in 2022

He has now made a total of 85 appearances for the MLS side across all competitions, scoring six goals and registering seven assists.

It remains to be seen whether or not Wiley will remain with Enzo Maresca’s first team for the upcoming season or join another club owned by BlueCo, for example French side Strasbourg.

This is a strategy that the club’s owners – spearheaded by Todd Boehly – have adopted over the past couple of years.

If Wiley does stay put at Stamford Bridge, he will be competing with the likes of Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella for a starting spot in Maresca’s side next term.

On the international stage, Wiley has been capped by the USMNT at several different age groups, and he is currently getting prepared to represent his country at the Olympic Games in Paris over the next fortnight.
