Chelsea have completed the signing of talented winger Geovany Quenda from Portuguese champions Sporting CP.
The Blues announced on Wednesday that the 19-year-old had completed a move to Stamford Bridge, signing a long-term deal that is set to run until the end of the 2033/34 campaign.
Quenda was born in Guinea-Bissau but moved to Europe as a child and spent time in Benfica’s academy before joining fierce rivals Sporting in 2019.
He went on to progress through the youth ranks in Lisbon, before making his senior debut for the club in 2024.
The winger became the youngest goalscorer in Sporting’s history when he netted against Porto in the Supercup Candido De Oliveira in August, and finished his debut season with a hugely impressive tally of three goals and eight assists in 54 matches across all competitions.
Last term, Quenda added a further 15 combined goals and assists as Sporting won the league and cup double.
The Portuguese is yet to make his senior debut internationally but has represented his country at various age group levels, scoring seven times in 13 games for their Under-21s.
The signing of Quenda continues Chelsea’s policy of signing talented youngsters from across the world which has been adopted since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took charge of the Blues back in 2022.
Several young players have joined Chelsea in the years since then, many of whom have then since been sold or spent time on loan at French side Strasbourg, who are also under the same ownership group.
If he does remain at Stamford Bridge next season, the Portuguese will be competing with the likes of Pedro Neto, Estevao and Alejandro Garnacho for a starting spot in Xabi Alonso’s side.
Quenda becomes Chelsea’s second signing of the summer after Marco Palestra’s arrival from Italian side Atalanta.
