Chelsea confident of landing van Dijk

Virgil van Dijk remains one of Chelsea’s priority summer signings despite missing the last four months of the season through injury.

According to a report in the Independent Antonio Conte remains fully focussed on bringing the Southampton defender to Stamford Bridge despite a serious ankle injury.

Van Dijk’s season came to a halt in January with his ankle injury forcing him to watch the EFL Cup Final from the sidelines as Southampton’s season petered out.

Conte has been keen on van Dijk since before Christmas and is confident that Chelsea’s title win can help the club beat off competition from Liverpool and Arsenal to sign the 25 year old.

Southampton have stated a couple of times that van Dijk is not for sale but are unlikely to be able to resist an offer in the region of £50m.

Van Dijk was signed from Celtic for £13m in 2015 with the Scottish champions believed to be due 10% of any profit from the defenders transfer.
