Chelsea are reportedly still in the hunt to sign Italy international defender Alessio Romagnoli, according to the Evening Standard.

The Premier League side, who recorded their fifth successive league win at the weekend following their 5-0 thrashing of Everton to move up to second in the English top-flight table, have been continually linked with a move for the AC Milan centre-half.

The 21-year-old, who has two senior international caps for his country and has been selected in Italy’s latest squad to face Liechtenstein and Germany during the recent international break, has featured in 11 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A outfit so far this season.

Romagnoli, who arrived at the San Siro from Italian rivals AS Roma back in August 2015 following his reported €25m switch, was the subject of a failed £35m offer from The Blues this summer.

However, the report does add that fellow countryman and Juventus star, Leonardo Bonucci, is the Premier League side’s number one defensive target ahead of the January transfer window.
