Chelsea could make Leicester City’s Wesley Fofana the most expensive defender in history, according to reports.

As per The Telegraph, the Blues could continue their summer of spending by paying more than £80 million for the Frenchman, a fee that would break the record for a defender.

That record is currently held by ex-Foxes centre-back Harry Maguire, who joined Manchester United for just shy of £80 million back in 2019.

Leicester insist that Fofana is not for sale, although they value the player at around the £80 million mark, meaning that Chelsea may tempt them to part ways with the player if they offer that amount.

Fofana is believed to be keen on the idea of a move to Chelsea, although his current club are standing firm on their stance.

Thomas Tuchel has been backed by new owner Todd Boehly in his first transfer window in charge of the club, with four new signings having been confirmed so far.

The Blues have landed Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Carney Chukwuemeka and Marc Cucurella, and they have also been linked with a number of other names.
