Chelsea sit second in the Premier League table heading into the international break, after a 2-0 win against West London rivals Fulham on Saturday.

Goals from Joao Pedro and Enzo Fernandez earned Enzo Maresca’s side an important victory at Stamford Bridge, although the game was marred somewhat by VAR controversy after the visitors had a goal disallowed.

Off the pitch the Blues have been busy in the transfer market this summer, with Pedro and Liam Delap among those to have joined the club.

Now, one of Chelsea’s defenders is set to depart the club permanently.

According to Fabrizio Romano, left-back Ben Chilwell is set to join French side Strasbourg on a two-year-deal.

The Englishman has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge and hasn’t featured for Chelsea since September last year, when he made his only appearance of the season for the Blues.

Chilwell, 28, was loaned to London rivals Crystal Palace in January and featured 11 times for the Eagles during his spell in South London, scoring once.

Romano claims that the full-back has already completed a medical ahead of the proposed move, which will see him join Liam Rosenior’s squad.

The Englishman joined Chelsea from Leicester City back in 2020 and has since made more than 100 appearances for the West London side across all competitions.

He was part of the squad that won the Champions League in 2021, but has struggled with injuries throughout his time in the capital.

The defender’s contract is set to run until the end of the 2026/27 season, but Romano claims that he will sign a two-year deal with the Ligue 1 side, who are set to compete in the Europa Conference League this season.
