New Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso will hope to enjoy a successful debut season in west London.

The Spaniard has been appointed as the Blues’ new manager this summer, following the sacking of Liam Rosenior towards the end of last term.

Alonso inherits a side that finished 10th in the Premier League table last term and they therefore won’t compete in any European competition next season.

Former Bayer Leverkusen boss Alonso will likely wan to finetune his squad this summer, with the London side having already signed full-back Marco Palestra from Serie A side Atalanta.

Now, it appears that Chelsea are eyeing a move to sign a prolific striker from Europe, with one of their current crop set to depart Stamford Bridge.

As reported by CaughtOffside, the Blues are considering a move to sign free agent Dusan Vlahovic if Liam Delap departs the club.

Delap joined Chelsea from Ipswich Town last summer after scoring 12 Premier League goals for the Tractor Boys the previous season, but his debut campaign in London did not go to plan.

The Englishman netted just twice in 42 appearances for the club last season, and the report suggests that those in charge of the Blues could look to overhaul their attack this summer.

Vlahovic, meanwhile, left Juventus earlier this summer but had scored 68 times in 168 games during a four-year spell with the Old Lady.

The report claims that Chelsea are exploring a move for the Serbia international and view him as a genuine target if they do decide to bolster their attack this summer.

The striker has previously been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, and his status as a free agent could make him an even more appealing prospect for the club.
