Chelsea fend off Arsenal and Barcelona interest to land Rangers prodigy Billy Gilmour

Chelsea have reportedly beaten the likes of Arsenal and FC Barcelona to the signing of highly-rated star Billy Gilmour, according to The Scottish Sun.

The Premier League side, who visit sixth placed Manchester United on Sunday (16:00) in the top-flight, have been linked with the Rangers’ wonderkid since December.

The 15-year-old is set to cost the Stamford Bridge outfit around £500,000.

The club’s managing director, Stewart Robertson, had already admitted that the Scottish Premiership side had reluctantly agreed a deal with The Blues for their youngster, who doesn’t turn 16 until June.

He previously said, “We have a position agreed if Billy was to go.

“It would be negligent of us not to have done that.

“We need to protect our position and do the sensible thing, because if he goes in the summer without a deal being agreed then he leaves for a compensation amount.

“That would be a helluva lot less than if we had a fee agreed beforehand.”
