Chelsea given the green light to pursue midfielder who cost €80m last summer

05 May 2015 - Uefa Champions League - Juventus v Real Madrid - Stefano Sturaro of Juventus challenges James Rodriguez of Madrid.

Chelsea are reportedly ready to raid Real Madrid for James Rodriguez during the January transfer window.

The defending Premier League champions, who currently sit just three points above the bottom three heading into Christmas, are keeping a close eye on the Colombia international’s situation at the Bernabeu this campaign.

The 24-year-old, who joined Madrid from AS Monaco last summer for around €80m, has scored three goals in ten appearances for the La Liga giants so far this season.

However the Blues, who sacked manager Jose Mourinho on Thursday, have been given the all-clear in a bid to sign Rodriguez by new interim boss Guus Hiddink after learning the midfielder is unhappy with his limited first-team chances under Rafa Benitez in Spain this term.
