With the transfer window now in full swing, clubs throughout the Premier League are busy buying and selling players ahead of the start of the upcoming season.
Chelsea have been one of the most active sides in the top flight so far this summer, paying £117 million to make Morgan Rogers the most expensive British footballer of all time.
The Blues have also signed full-back Marco Palestra from Atalanta and winger Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP, but it appears that the west London outfit are not done yet when it comes to new signings.
According to Mail Sport, Chelsea are working on a deal to sign striker Danny Welbeck from Brighton and Hove Albion.
The report claims that the Blues have identified the 36-year-old as an ideal candidate to add experience to Xabi Alonso’s squad in attack ahead of the start of the new campaign.

Welbeck has played for several clubs in England – most notable Manchester United and Arsenal – and has scored 90 goals in 400 matches in the competition throughout his career so far.
Last term the Englishman netted 13 times in the Premier League for the Seagulls, and it appears that his impressive form has put him firmly on the radar of Chelsea, with the report suggesting that the Blues have enquired about the player’s availability.
Welbeck’s current contract at The Amex is set to run until the end of the upcoming campaign, but it appears that Chelsea are attempting to lure him to London before the end of the current window.
Chelsea currently have Nicolas Jackson, Marc Guiu, Joao Pedro, Liam Delap and Emmanuel Emegha as options up front in Alonso’s squad, and it would appear almost certain that at least two of those would be offloaded if Welbeck were to arrive at Stamford Bridge.
