Europa Conference League holders Chelsea will aim to add to their bulging trophy cabinet when the Club World Cup starts later this month.
The tournament has been expanded to feature 32 teams from across the world, with the Blues and Manchester City the only English sides involved.
Enzo Maresca’s side lifted the Conference League after beating Real Betis in Wroclaw last month, and they also won the Club World Cup – in its old format – back in 2021.
Despite a relatively successful season, it appears that those in charge of the West London outfit are once again going to be busy during this summer’s transfer window.
According to CaughtOffside, Chelsea have lodged a £55 million offer for Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens.
The report claims that the Blues have resumed discussions over a potential deal for the young Englishman, having initially shown interest in the player during the recent January transfer window.
Gittens, 20, joined Dortmund in 2020 after leaving Manchester City’s academy, and he has forced his way into the first team over the past couple of seasons.
In total the winger has now played more than 100 times for Dortmund, scoring 17 goals and registering 14 assists.
Gittens – who primarily plays on the left but can also operate on the right or even centrally – has attracted interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs with his performances this term.
It is claimed that Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City are all showing interest in the player, while Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are also credited with an interest.
The winger spent time in Chelsea’s famed Cobham academy as a youngster, and the West London club are now attempting to lure the player back to SW6.
Chelsea’s interest interest in Gittens comes as the West London side decided not to sign Jadon Sancho permanently from Manchester United, with the Englishman set to return to Old Trafford following his loan spell.
