Chelsea’s search for a new central defender has lead them to Manchester United’s Harry Maguire, according to reports.

As per The Mail, The Blues have enquired about the availability of the England international, who has endured a tough time at Old Trafford.

The centre-back joined United from Leicester City back in 2019 for a world record fee for a defender, but his time in Manchester has been marred by inconsistency and poor United performances.

Despite that, the report claims that Chelsea were open to the idea of a swap deal involving Christian Pulisic, a player that United have been heavily linked with in recent weeks.

The US international has struggled for game time at Stamford Bridge and that is likely to continue following the arrival of Raheem Sterling, but it is claimed that United have offered the player the chance to revive his career.

Maguire has been linked with a shock move to Chelsea

Maguire has made 146 appearances for The Red Devils, but speculation is building that Erik ten Hag could drop the Englishman for the visit of Liverpool on Monday.

The 29-year-old has been criticised by sections of United supporters, but a succession of managers have stuck with the defender.

The Dutchman has Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly as alternative options at centre-back.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have been working hard to sign Leicester City’s Wesley Fofana, as they look to add a central defender to their ranks.

Thomas Tuchel lost both Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger at the end of last season and has so far only added Kalidou Koulibaly to his squad, potentially leaving him lacking defensively.
