Chelsea must snap up these 2 Bundesliga stars in January

Antonio Conte has masterminded a Chelsea resurgence which has seen them go from struggling to keep clean sheets to the top of the Premier League.

The Blues did win their first three league games under their new boss, but defeats at home to Liverpool and at Arsenal highlighted their defensive deficiencies, with certain players in particular coming in for heavy criticism.

However, Conte, who took over from interim boss Guus Hiddink in the summer, implemented a back three in their win over Hull, and since then they have won five Premier League games in a row without conceding a goal.

Chelsea’s incredible run has seen them rise to the top of the division at the expense of Liverpool, who could only manage a 0-0 draw at Southampton on Saturday, while the Blues beat Middlesbrough 1-0 on Sunday.

Conte’s side host Tottenham and then travel to Manchester City in their next two games, which will give fans the clearest indication yet of whether Chelsea can challenge for the Premier League title.

However, some may feel that Conte needs more reinforcements to keep his men near the top, so here are TWO Bundesliga stars he should try and snap up in January…

Thorgan Hazard

Chelsea sold Thorgan Hazard to Borussia Monchengladbach last year, having never made a first team appearance for the Blues.

And, in a similar way to that of Kevin De Bruyne, the 23-year-old has rebuilt his career in the Bundesliga, and is beginning to fulfil the potential many saw in him during his frustrating time at Stamford Bridge.

Hazard, brother of Chelsea forward Eden, has netted seven goals in 14 games for Monchengladbach this season, including four in their Champions League campaign.

And, according to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have a buy-out clause in Hazard’s contract, which means they could secure a deal for the Belgium international for just £13 million, significantly less than what he’s worth in today’s market.

However, that option expires on December 31 this year, so the Blues need to agree a deal prior to the window opening to get their man for a cut price.

Hazard would certainly bolster Chelsea’s attacking options and, if he has the same effect as De Bruyne has had at Manchester City, then Chelsea would get one hell of a player for just £13 million.

Sead Kolasinac

Schalke’s Sead Kolasinac has been performing brilliantly for the Bundesliga side, and has unsurprisingly been attracting interest from several Premier League clubs.

One of which is Chelsea, who are reportedly looking at the 23-year-old, especially given that his contract expires at the end of the season.

The Blues did struggle defensively prior to manager Conte switching to a back three, and the Italian may want further defensive options to keep his side at the top of the Premier League.

Kolasinac has started just six times in the league for Schalke this season and, given that a new deal has yet to be agreed, he could hold discussions with other clubs come the New Year.

He’d be a player who would seriously benefit Chelsea and, at the age of 23, he could be a long-term fixture in the Blues starting line-up for years to come.
