Chelsea are closing in on a deal to sign former Real Madrid left-back, Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina, according to The Guardian, as manager Antonio Conte looks to bolster his defensive ranks before the transfer window closes on Wednesday evening.

As per the Guardian’s reports, the Blues have agreed personal terms with the 25-year-old, and now only have to finalise a fee, reportedly in the region of £20.5m, with the Serie A outfit before confirming the deal.

The former Bolton and Sunderland man would come in as the former Juventus manager looks to add to his numbers at the back before the deadline, having let 22-year-old full-back, Baba Rahman join German side Schalke on loan earlier this summer.

A central defender is also on the wish-list at Stamford Bridge, however approaches for Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and AC Milan’s highly rates Alessio Romagnoli were both rebuffed and the club are reportedly considering a short-term loan move to solve their problem.

Should the deal go through, as it appears it will, Alonso will join striker Michy Batshuayi, Premier League champion N’Golo Kante and ‘keeper Eduardo on the ‘IN’ list at the Bridge this summer.
