Chelsea plotting £20m raid for Germany and AS Roma defender

Chelsea are reportedly preparing a £20m raid for Germany international defender Antonio Rudiger this summer, according to the Daily Star.

The Premier League side, who finished tenth in the English top-flight standings this term following their disappointing defence of the title, are ready to cough up a large sum of money in a bid to try and lure the AS Roma star to Stamford Bridge ahead of the 2016/17 campaign.

The 23-year-old, who has 10 international caps for his country and has been included in Germany’s squad for EURO 2016 later this month, scored two goals in 37 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A outfit this season.

Rudiger, who is set to be offered a five-year deal by the Blues, only joined the Italian side on a permanent deal earlier this week after making his loan spell permanent in a £6.9m agreement.

However incoming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is keen on drafting in more defensive recruits ahead of his first season in charge of the Premier League club.
