Chelsea are reportedly closing in on a deal to snap up Spain international goalkeeper Diego Lopez, according to GazzaMercato (via the Express).

The Premier League side, who could only finish tenth in the English top-flight standings last term during their terrible defence of the 2014/15 title, have been linked with a move for the veteran AC Milan goalkeeper ahead of the forthcoming 2016/17 campaign.

The 34-year-old, who made his international debut against Macedonia back in August 2009, kept just one clean sheet in nine appearances in all competitions for the Serie A outfit last season.

Lopez, who arrived at the San Siro back in August 2014 following his departure from La Liga giants Real Madrid, is wanted by new Blues boss Antonio Conte as back-up for number one shot stopper Thibaut Courtois.

However; the emergence of teenage goalkeeping sensationĀ Gianluigi Donnarumma means the Spaniard is free to leave the Italians, although the report suggests the deal may not go through until Chelsea offload fellow ā€˜keeper Asmir Begovic to Everton.
