Chelsea predicted XI vs Wolves: Frank Lampard’s possible starting line-up as Blues boss set to change forward line after Everton defeat

Chelsea are on an impressive run of form.

Chelsea travel to Molineux to take on Wolves as they look to bounce back from losing their unbeaten run at Everton on Saturday.

The Blues were undefeated in their previous 14 matches in all competitions (we’re counting the Spurs EFL Cup defeat as a loss) before losing out 1-0 to a Gylfi Sigurdsson penalty.

Despite the result, Frank Lampard’s side sit fifth and just three points off leaders Tottenham at the top.

Lampard will be looking for a reaction from his players against Wolves.

They will also be confident facing a Wolves team which has won just won of their previous five Premier League games.

But following the defeat at Goodison, Lampard could be set to make some changes on Tuesday night.

So with a talented squad at his disposal, which players will the Blues boss task with trying to get back to winning ways..?

Here we predict the Chelsea starting XI to take on Wolves at Molineux…

Goalkeeper:

The easiest pick to predict is who will be in goal for Chelsea. Edouard Mendy has been brilliant for the Blues since signing from Rennes and will continue to keep Kepa Arrizabalaga out of the side. The Senegal international has conceded just five times in 14 matches for the club, keeping nine (including a joint-best five in the Premier League) clean sheets in the process.

Defenders:

Despite again impressing against Everton, Reece James could be given a rest with the reliable club-captain Cesar Azpilicueta returning to the XI. Other than that potential change at right-back we expect Lampard to stick with the trio of Ben Chilwell, Kurt Zouma and Thiago Silva across his backline. This means Antonio Rudiger or Andreas Christensen are expected to be in reserve.

Midfielders:

Prior to the defeat at Everton, Chelsea’s good form had largely been down to having a more settled side in the midfield area. Lampard was consistently opting for the trio of N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Mason Mount as a number 10. Despite the likes of Jorginho and the fit-again Billy Gilmour pushing for a spot, we’re expecting the Blues boss to stick with the Frenchman, Croatian and Englishman.

Forwards:

After a goalless game at the weekend, the forward line is the one area where Lampard could rotate his side against Wolves. Although Olivier Giroud is in good form, the younger legs of Tammy Abraham could be chosen to start this one, especially after scoring a hat-trick in the same fixture last season. Out wide, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz really struggled to make a big impact at Goodison. Although we think Lampard will stick with the former, the club-record buy could be replaced by Christian Pulisic, who missed the trip to Everton with a minor hamstring injury.

Predicted Chelsea XI vs Wolves: Mendy; Azpilicueta, Zouma, Silva, Chilwell; Kovacic, Kante, Mount; Pulisic, Werner, Abraham.
