Chelsea are prepared to offer two defenders plus cash in order to hijack Manchester United’s pursuit of Frenkie de Jong, according to reports.

As per Metro via The Independent, the Blues are willing to offer both Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta plus £51 million in a bid to sign the Dutchman.

Both Spaniards have been linked with a move to the Nou Camp this summer, with ex-teammate Andreas Christensen having already made the move to Catalunya.

The pair, both 32, have fallen behind Ben Chilwell and Reece James in their respective full-back positions of late, and could both depart this summer.

De Jong looks increasingly likely to become a Premier League player this summer

De Jong had looked almost certain to sign for the Red Devils this summer, but Chelsea’s late interest may have derailed United’s attempts to land the 25-year-old.

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly was pictured in Barcelona on Thursday evening, reportedly meeting with Barcelona president Joan Laporta.

A number of names were believed to have been mentioned during the meeting, including Memphis Depay and Sergino Dest.
