Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte is prepared to spend big in the January window in order to land AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli, according to reports from The Sun.
The Blues had a number of big money bids snubbed by the Serie A side during the summer and had to settle for a David Luiz return, however, the former Juventus manager is now ready to return with a whopping £49m bid to land his top target.
The bid would come close to the record fee for a defender, which is currently the £50m paid by Paris Saint-Germain to land the now returned David Luiz.
Romagnoli arrived at the San Siro from Roma last summer for a fee of around £20m and has made 47 appearances for Milan since making the switch.
It is clear that Conte is still unhappy with his side, despite having brought in both Luiz and full-back Marcos Alonso during the last window, and feels that the back line needs further steel.
