Chelsea are reportedly ready to offer legendary player Frank Lampard a role at the club if he chooses to retire from professional football, according to The Guardian.

The Premier League side, who currently sit just one point behind top-flight leaders Liverpool after winning their last five league games in a row, could hand their former midfielder an ambassadorial role at Stamford Bridge.

The 38-year-old, who earned 106 international caps for England, has recently announced that he will be leaving Major League Soccer outfit New York City.

His contract with the MLS side expires next month, fuelling speculation Chelsea will offer Lampard a role with The Blues if he decides to hang up his boots, although it is not yet known whether he intends to move into punditry or coaching, or neither.

Lampard scored 211 goals in 648 appearances for Chelsea between 2001 and 2014, winning three Premier League titles, four FA Cup, two League Cups, one Champions League crown and the Europa League.
