Chelsea turned down the opportunity to sign striker Salomon Rondon from Dalian Yifang on deadline day, according to reports.

The Blues were on the lookout for a striker which would’ve allowed Olivier Giroud to leave the club.

Two days after failing to add a centre-forward, The Telegraph’s Matt Law has revealed that West London club rejected the chance to bring in Rondon on loan.

It’s claimed that Chelsea’s hierarchy didn’t feel that the 30-year-old would improve their striking options of Tammy Abraham, Michy Batshuayi and Giroud.

Abraham is Chelsea’s top scorer this season with 15 goals.

The Venezuela international spent last season on loan at Newcastle United from West Bromwich Albion and scored 11 Premier League goals.

Since moving to China, the 30-year-old has hit the back of the net on five occasions in 11 appearances for Rafa Bentiez’s side.

In his club-career to date, Rondon scored 136 times in 398 matches – a rate of a goal every 2.9 games.
