Chelsea are reportedly set to beat Premier League rivals Arsenal to the £30m signing of Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, according to the Mirror.
The Senegal international caught the attentions of a number of clubs following some impressive performances for the Serie A outfit last season, and is ready to leave Italy after failing to agree a new deal with Napoli.
Chelsea and Arsenal were two of the teams to register their interest in the 25-year-old, but it is the former that is set to win the race for the centre-back’s signature, with incoming Blues boss Antonio Conte ready to build his defence around the Senegalese player.
Koulibaly made 42 appearances in all competitions as Napoli finished second behind Juventus in Serie A last term, and will be tasked with tightening up a Chelsea defence that conceded 53 goals in the English top flight in 2015/16, as the Blues ended the campaign in 10th, without European football next season.
