Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso has said goodbye to staff at the club’s training ground ahead of his proposed move to Barcelona.

The Spaniard is expected to complete a move to the Nou Camp this week, which will see him reunite with former Blues teammate Andreas Christensen, who left the club at the end of the season.

According to The Mail, the 31-year-old said his farewells to club staff on Friday, following confirmation that Chelsea had signed Marc Cucurella.

Cucurella, a £55 million arrival from Brighton and Hove Albion, will likely be used both at left wing-back and on the left side of a back three at times, but with Ben Chilwell, Emerson Palmieri and Kenedy all jostling for minutes on the left, Alonso would likely have struggled for game time.

Alonso’s time at Chelsea is coming to an end

The former Bolton Wanderers man won five trophies during his six years in London, including the Champions League in 2021.

He also made more than 200 appearances for the club and earned himself the respect of the club’s supporters by scoring against rivals Tottenham Hotspur on three occasions.

The Spain international agreed personal terms with Barcelona several weeks ago and is expected to sign a two-year deal with the club in the coming days.
