Chelsea look set to miss out on signing former Italy international defender Giorgio Chiellini, according to Sky Italia.

The defending Premier League champions, who visit Arsenal on Wednesday night (19:45), have been linked with the Juventus star during this month’s transfer window.

The 33-year-old, who earned 96 caps for the Azzurri before retiring from international football back in November 2017, has provided an assist in 19 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A giants so far this season.

Chiellini, who has also played for the likes of Livorno, AS Roma and Fiorentina in his homeland, has scored 34 goals in over 450 games overall for Juve since arriving in Turin back in 2005.

However, Chelsea’s hopes of luring the centre-half to Stamford Bridge later this month have suffered a major setback, with the defender hinting he is willing to extend his contract with the defending Serie A champions, where he has won six Serie A titles, the Serie B title, three Coppa Italias and three Supercoppa Italianas.

Chiellini is valued at just £9m by transfermarkt.
