Chelsea’s £35m flop Danny Drinkwater in no rush to quit Stamford Bridge

England international midfielder Danny Drinkwater is not in any rush to quit Chelsea, despite yet to play in the Premier League this season, according to The Telegraph.

The Blues, who take on MOL Vidi at Stamford Bridge in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night (20:00), were linked with offloading the central midfielder during the previous summer transfer window, but to no avail.

The 28-year-old, who has three international caps for the Three Lions, has not played any English top-flight action so far this campaign, but did feature as a substitute during Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat in the FA Community Shield clash against Manchester City back in August.

Drinkwater, who arrived at Stamford Bridge back in September 2017 following his £35m move from Leicester City, has scored one goal in 23 appearances in all competitions for the club.

Despite not being included in the vast majority of new manager Maurizio Sarri’s matchday squads this season, the report claims the player is in no rush to join another club, although Chelsea tried to push through a permanent or loan exit for the former Foxes star in the summer.

The uncertainty surrounding the central midfielder’s future at the London outfit has sparked suggestions that Drinkwater could have already played his last game for Chelsea, although he is contracted at Stamford Bridge until June 2022.

He currently earns around £100,000-a-week, and is now valued at £18m.
