For only the second time, due to the absence of Wayne Rooney through injury, Gary Cahill captained England against Germany in Berlin on Saturday night.
It was a game not many would have expected the Three Lions to get something from beforehand, and it looked likely to be the case when Roy Hodgson’s side found themselves 2-0 behind with an hour left to play.
However, led by Chelsea defender, they turned it around with goals from Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy, and a stoppage-time winner from Eric Dier helping England to famous win against one of the old enemies.
In the future when people are looking back at this fixture, Cahill’s name will be listed as England captain, and it is certainly a high point for the 30-year-old in what has been a disappointing season for his club.
