Conte should give these 3 Chelsea players a chance against Leicester

Premier League leaders Chelsea travel to champions Leicester on Saturday (5.30pm kick-off) hoping to bounce back from their defeat at Tottenham last time out.

Antonio Conte’s side saw their 13-match winning streak come to an end courtesy of a 2-0 loss at White Hart Lane, with two Dele Alli headers doing for the Blues last week.

Nonetheless, Chelsea responded by sweeping aside League One side Peterborough 4-1 in the FA Cup last weekend, but they’ll face a tricky challenge at the King Power Stadium on their return to league action.

Although the champions have struggled in their title defence, Claudio Ranieri’s men have won five and lost just two of their ten home league games this season, and they have also lost just one of their last five matches in all competitions.

Like Chelsea, Leicester reached the fourth round of the FA Cup with victory over Everton at Goodison Park, so confidence will be high in the Foxes camp ahead of the visit of the leaders.

Following defeat in their last league outing, Conte could make a few changes to his side on Saturday, so here are THREE Chelsea players who deserve a chance against Leicester…

Kurt Zouma

Kurt Zouma returned from an 11-month spell on the sidelines in Chelsea’s 4-1 victory over Peterborough last weekend, and he also completed the full 90 minutes which will undoubtedly please manager Conte.

It also means that the Chelsea boss has greater defensive options at his disposal and, based on Zouma’s exploits in the side back in 2015, he’s certainly a first team option for Conte.

Thus, could the Italian bring him in for his first Premier League start since February last year against Leicester on Saturday?

The Blues lost their last league game 2-0 at Tottenham and, although they won’t panic, Conte could tweak a few things when they visit the champions on Saturday.

As a result, Zouma could be in line for a starting role.

Nathan Ake

Chelsea recalled defender Nathan Ake from his loan spell at Bournemouth on Sunday, so it’s clear that Conte sees him in his first team plans for the rest of the campaign.

The 21-year-old was excellent for the Cherries during his six-month spell at the Vitality Stadium, and played in a variety of positions in Eddie Howe’s side.

However, The Evening Standard believe that Ake has been recalled because of concerns about Marcos Alonso’s fitness, so Conte may be tempted to draft Ake into the starting eleven at Leicester.

They reckon that Alonso’s muscular injury in his leg is worsening, so he needs time to rest and recover from it, which should allow Ake a run in the first team.

That run could start at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.

Cesc Fabregas

Chelsea were lacking something against Tottenham in their Premier League meeting last week, and that something could have been provided by Cesc Fabregas if he was on the pitch.

Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele comfortably marshalled N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic, yet the more forward-thinking Fabregas would have given them a different problem to contend with.

Thus, Conte could start the Spanish international against Leicester on Saturday, despite him playing the full 90 minutes against Peterborough last weekend.

The Blues boss has been chopping and changing him and Matic over the last few weeks, so it wouldn’t be at all surprising if Fabregas got the nod.
