Copa America winner ‘very close’ to joining Man Utd

Manchester United are reportedly set to add a new forward to their squad.

According to Portuguese transfer insider, Pedro Almeida, the Red Devils are ‘very close’ to signing Julian Alvarez.

The River Plate star has hit the headlines in his native Argentina, registering 24 goals and 15 assists fir his current club in the 2021 season.

Alvarez’s form talent and eye for goal, which saw him net nine in 25 the previous campaign, is claimed to have caught the attention of United.

Alvarez celebrates.

It’s thought that the Old Trafford club are willing to meet the 21-year-old’s £16.81m buy-out clause in order to make him Ralf Rangnick’s first signing as interim boss.

Alvarez’s goals saw him crowned the top scorer in Argentina’s Primera Division and helped River Plate win their 37th title.

The forward also broke into Argentina’s national team and was part of the squad which won Copa America last summer.
