Mourinho could tempt these 2 Tottenham players to Man United in January

Jose Mourinho is halfway through his first season at Manchester United, and after a shaky start things are getting back on track for the former Chelsea boss.

The Red Devils started strong but having faltered now sit in sixth in the Premier League after a little resurgence in form.

With Chelsea not quite as far out of reach as many had thought, in the light of the revelations around Diego Costa’s future potentially unsettling their title challenge.

A strong standing going into their second leg of the EFL Cup semi-final against Hull, means that the first major trophy of the Jose Mourinho reign could be just over the horizon.

Success in the League Cup could spur the red half of Manchester onto further triumphs later in the season, and all that it could take is a couple of key additions in this window.

So, here are TWO Tottenham players he could lure to Old Trafford in January…

Ben Davies

Ben Davies was reportedly being monitored by Antonio Conte’s Chelsea ahead of the January transfer window, and he’s a player who has hugely impressed in recent seasons.

Tottenham’s strength in the full-back areas, with Kyle Walker and Danny Rose first choices, and Davies and Kieran Trippier as back-ups, must be envied by many teams in the top-flight – one of which could be United.

Mourinho’s full-back options are limited in comparison, with winger Antonio Valencia the current first choice right-back ahead of Matteo Darmian, and Luke Shaw not hugely trusted by his manager.

Thus, the United boss could look to strengthen that area, and he’d do a lot worse than look at Davies, who doesn’t feature regularly for Spurs, and may jump at the chance of increased first team opportunities at Old Trafford.

Mousa Dembele

Mousa Dembele could be exactly the sort of player Manchester United need in the middle of the park.

It was noticeable, certainly at times last season, how much Tottenham missed Dembele’s presence in the midfield when he wasn’t playing, as he can do everything you want from a defensive midfielder.

He is calm on the ball and when under pressure, but also has an eye for a pass and can launch attacks. He is strong in the tackle and reads the game incredibly well, but he also keeps things simple, much in the same way Michael Carrick does and has done for United over so many years.

Marouane Fellaini is probably not the answer and, although Ander Herrera has done well this season, there needs to be another reliable option alongside him in Mourinho’s formation.

Dembele could be that man and, given Victor Wanyama has come in and performed brilliantly for Spurs, there’s an argument that Dembele is no longer the first choice, and his omission from the Champions League starting elevens earlier this season could further demonstrate that.

Mourinho should seriously consider a move for the Belgium international this month.
