Coventry City are reportedly poised to complete the permanent signing of England international Joe Cole this month.

The League One side, who currently sit four points behind league leaders Burton Albion in fourth spot, are hopeful of completing a deal in time for the Aston Villa midfielder to play against promotion rivals Walsall next Tuesday.

The 34-year-old, who has 56 international caps for the Three Lions, has scored one and assisted another goal in seven appearances for the Sky Blues so far this season.

Cole, who originally arrived at the Ricoh Arena on loan from Villa in mid-October, is currently negotiating the release of his current contract with the Premier League club which still has six months to run.
