Shoot! would like to wish Poland international and FC Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski many happy returns as the striker celebrates his 29th birthday today!

The birthday boy, who has 86 international caps for his country – only seven other footballers have represented Poland more times – has already been on fire for defending Bundesliga champions Bayern this season, scoring four goals in his opening three competitive outings.

Lewandowski, who arrived at the Allianz Arena back in July 2014 following his move from German rivals Borussia Dortmund, netted a remarkable 43 times and provided 10 assists in 47 appearances in all competitions for Carlo Ancelotti’s side last term.

In fact; the Pole has scored 114 times in just 150 games overall for Bayern, winning three league titles, the German Cup and the German Super Cup, undeniably becoming one of Europe’s most prolific forwards.

To celebrate his latest milestone, here is Shoot!‘s five facts you may not know about Lewandowski…

Lewandowski comes from a family that is very talented. Other than the 29-year-old becoming one of Europe’s deadliest strikers, his father, Krystof, was a Polish Judo champion.

Furthermore; his mother, Iwona, was a professional volleyball player. Plus, Robert’s sister, Milena, plays volleyball too.

Then, his wife, Anna Lewandowska, is a multiple karate medalist, including winning bronze at the 2009 Karate World Cup.

Lewandowski is the only Bundesliga player to come off the bench and score five goals in a match.

The Bayern Munich netted five times in just 8 minutes and 59 seconds against Wolfsburg back in September 2015.

His incredible goalscoring feat that night also saw the Pole record the fastest Bundesliga hat-trick in just four minutes.

Robert and Pope Francis

Polish Prodigy

Poland’s Robert Lewandowski.

Lewandowski has been crowned Polish Footballer of the Year a record six successive times (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016).

Previous winners of the award include former Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek and Wolfsburg winger Jakub Błaszczykowski.

Blackburn Blunder

Ex-Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce.

Unbelievably, Lewandowski almost joined Blackburn Rovers in 2010 – who are now playing in League One, the third-tier of English football!

The Poland international admitted the volcanic ash cloud over Europe prevented him from joining Sam Allardyce’s side at the time, after his scheduled flight was cancelled.

Instead, the Lech Poznan hitman joined Borussia Dortmund later that summer. A move that ultimately proved very profitable!
