Did You Know? 5 facts about former Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimović

SHOOT would like to wish Zlatan Ibrahimović many happy returns as the former Sweden international superstar celebrates his 37th birthday this evening!

The ex-Manchester United, who has an impressive 116 caps for his country, making him the sixth most capped player for Sweden of all-time, is now starring in Major League Soccer for Los Angeles Galaxy.

Ibrahimović, who left Old Trafford back in March 2018 after agreeing to terminate his contract at the Premier League club, has scored a remarkable 20 goals and provided six assists in just 24 appearances for the American outfit overall.

The Swedish striker joined Jose Mourinho’s United on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain back in July 2016, and went on to net 29 goals in 53 appearances in all competitions for The Red Devils, winning the UEFA Europa League, the EFL Cup and the FA Community Shield.

As well as United, Ibrahimović has played for the likes of Malmo, Ajax, Juventus, FC Barcelona, Inter Milan and AC Milan during his illustrious career, before moving to the U.S.

Zlatan has no time for trials

Ibrahimović could have easily joined Premier League rivals Arsenal back in 2001, but the highly rated striker turned down The Gunners’ interest after former manager Arsene Wenger insisted for a trial.

Instead, the Swedish teenager agreed to join Eredivisie outfit Ajax that summer.

Five-Star Fluency

Ibrahimović is fluent in Swedish, English, Spanish, Italian and Bosnian.

Ibrahimović is the only player to have scored for six different clubs in the UEFA Champions League.

However, he did not net for United in the European elite competition, as he only made one Champions League appearance for The Red Devils, against FC Basel back in November 2017.

‘To Zlatan’


Given his legendary status in Sweden, there should be little surprise that Ibrahimović’s name has been added to their national dictionary, as a verb.

The term ‘To Zlatan‘ means “to dominate“.

Black Belt

Ibrahimović received an honorary black belt in taekwondo after he attended classes at the Malmo Taekwondo club as a youngster.
