Did You Know? 5 facts about Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku

Shoot! would like to wish Romelu Lukaku many happy returns as the Manchester United forward celebrates his 25th birthday this evening!

The Belgium international, who has 66 international caps for his country, has scored 27 goals and provided nine assists in 50 appearances in all competitions for the Premier League giants this season.

Lukaku, who arrived at Old Trafford back in July 2017 following his move from Everton, is the club’s second-ever most expensive signing of all-time, having cost an initial £75m, though the deal could reach a grand total of £90m through add-ons.

The ex-Chelsea striker has now impressively found the back of the net 101 times in 220 English top-flight outings for The Blues, United, Everton and West Bromwich Albion respectively.

However, Lukaku has been ruled out of Jose Mourinho’s side’s final three league games with an ankle injury, and faces a race against time to be fit for United’s showdown with former club Chelsea in the 2018 FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium next Saturday (May 19).

Anyway, to celebrate the Belgium striker’s latest milestone, here is Shoot!‘s five facts you may not know about the United goalscorer…

No, not for Manchester United, but for Belgium, who are also nicknamed ‘The Red Devils’.

Lukaku has impressively scored 33 goals in 66 international caps for his country, becoming his country’s all-time leading goalscorer, at the age of just 25!

Lukaku’s footballing idol when growing up was Chelsea legend Didier Drogba.

Romelu’s father, Roger Menama Lukaku, is a former Belgian/Congolese footballer.

Meanwhile, his younger brother, Jordan (Above), is currently playing for Serie A outfit Lazio, whilst his cousin, Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo, is playing for Rapid Wien in Austria.

Multilingual Man

Lukaku is a very intelligent man and succeeded in his language studies, as the United striker speaks Dutch, French, Spanish, Portuguese, English and also understands German.

He is also understood to have a Bachelors degree in Tourism, as well!

Lethal Lierse Youngster

Lukaku played for local side Lierse, before joining Anderlecht in 2006.

But it was at Lierse, between 2004 and 2006, where he reportedly scored a remarkable 121 goals in just 68 games – that is an average of 1.78 goals every game!

Prolific from such a young age.
