The EFL Cup is back this week with another exciting round of games as some of the big boys enter the competition to serve up some tasty ties!
One of the stand out games of round two takes place at Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium as the Brewers welcome last year’s finalists, Liverpool.
It’s already been a topsy-turvy couple of games for the Reds and manager Jurgen Klopp will be hoping to gain a comfortable victory and pick up some consistency, but they can expect a tough game from Nigel Clough’s men.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte’s first domestic cup game of the season will come against League One side Bristol Rover’s in a game where the Blues will be hoping to capitalise on the Pirates’ mediocre start to the season.
Ronald Koeman’s Everton will welcome League Two’s Yeovil Town to Goodison Park as the Toffee’s will really be hoping for some silverware this season after coming close to domestic glory in the last couple of seasons.
Yeovil delivered a 2-0 away victory against Walsall in the first round and their efforts have been rewarded with a potentially lucrative tie against Koeman’s men.
Thirteen Premier League clubs in all are entering the second round with Newcastle United and Norwich City also part of the draw.
Newcastle’s tie with Cheltenham Town is particularly exciting for the Robins as manager Gary Johnson told BBC Radio Gloucestershire it is a great draw for the club in more ways than one. Not only are the players and fans already excited, but the large crowd and coverage at St James’ Park will likely deliver a welcome financial boost for the club.
Sunderland are at home to Shrewsbury Town, Crystal Palace host Blackpool, AFC Bournemouth travel to Morecambe, Middlesbrough are away to Fulham and West Brom visit Northampton Town – making up the remaining ties for the Premier League outfits.
The remaining seven Premier League clubs, who are currently in European competitions, will enter the competition in the third round.
