Liverpool will reportedly have to offer Germany international star Emre Can £100,000-a-week if they wish for him to sign a new contract, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The Premier League side, who currently sit fourth in the top-flight standings after defeating Arsenal 3-1 at Anfield last weekend, are keen to tie down the defensive midfielder to a new deal before the close of the current 2016-17 campaign.

The 23-year-old, who has seven international caps for his country, has scored three goals and provided three assists in 29 appearances in all competitions for The Reds so far this season.

Can, who joined Liverpool from Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen back in June 2014 following his reported £9.75m switch, has less than 18 months remaining on his current contract at Anfield.

And despite failing to nail down a starting XI spot in manager Jurgen Klopp’s side, the German wants the Premier League club to offer him £100,000-a-week to extend his deal, which is around double what he is currently earning.
