Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe is keen on sealing a move to Premier League newboys Bournemouth.

It is understood that the England international is keen on a move away from the Black Cats before the close of the transfer window, who lost both of their opening Premier League fixtures to Leicester City and Norwich City respectively.

The 32-year-old, who has 55 international caps, arrived at the Stadium of Light from MLS side Toronto back in January before going onto score four goals in 17 Premier League appearances last term.

Despite helping Dick Advocaat’s side stave off relegation towards the end of last season, Defoe is reportedly unsettled in North-East England and is eager to seal a move back towards the south coast.

The England forward, who scored Sunderland’s first goal of the season at the King Power Stadium last weekend, previously enjoyed a fruitful spell at fellow south coast outfit Portsmouth, scoring 14 goals in all competitions during the 2008-09 campaign.

It was thought that Cherries boss Eddie Howe was interested in the Sunderland hitman during the Black Cats’ relegation battle last season, but he could be set to reignite his interest in Defoe this summer following his side’s goalscoring blank against Aston Villa in their opening 1-0 defeat to the Villans last Saturday.
