Burnley defender, Michael Keane, has been handed his first call-up to the senior side by Gareth Southgate as Stoke’s Glen Johnson withdrew through injury.

The 23-year-old, who made 16 appearances for the interim England manager’s U21 side, will join the squad at St. George’s Park ahead of World Cup qualifiers against both Malta and Slovenia.

Keane, who’s brother Will plays as a striker for Hull, is a graduate of the esteemed Man United academy, although he only managed one appearance for the Red Devil.

The former Leicester loanee has been impressing for Burnley so far this season, playing every second for Sean Dyche in the Premier League so far, even grabbing himself a goal against Watford.

His form so far this season urged many to call for his inclusion in the original 23-man England squad, however he has now been given his chance.

The call-up has pricked the ears of Red Devils fans on Twitter, who are now leaning towards the idea of a Old Trafford return…
