England face DR Congo in the last 32 of the World Cup in Atlanta on Wednesday afternoon.

The Three Lions were unconvincing for much of the group stages but finished top of group L, largely due to an impressive 4-2 victory over Croatia in their first match of the tournament.

A goalless draw against Ghana was then followed by a narrow 2-0 victory over Panama, and Thomas Tuchel’s side will now face DR Congo, who finished third in group K.

Ahead of that game, it has emerged that one member of the England squad could stay put at his current club, despite being heavily linked with a move away.

As per Fabrizio Romano, forward Marcus Rashford has been in talks with current club Manchester United about the possibility of being reintegrated into the squad.

Rashford is a product of United’s academy and has played 426 times for the club across all competitions, scoring 138 goals and registering 79 assists.

He fell out of favour during Ruben Amorim’s time in charge at Old Trafford, though, and was sent on loan to Spanish giants Barcelona ahead of the start of last season.

During his time in Spain, the 28-year-old registered a combined 28 goals and assists, but still struggled to establish himself as a guaranteed starter for Luis Enrique’s side.

Since the end of last season, Rashford has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford, but Romano now claims that the Englishman has been in discussions with United.

He claims that the player has held amicable talks with his boyhood club, with Rashford himself open to the idea of rejoining the United squad under Michael Carrick during pre-season.

United too are open to the prospect of a return, but Romano does also highlight how the Red Devils are still expecting to receive offers for the player this summer.
