Everton and Southampton eyeing up move for Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru

Premier League duo Everton and Southampton have met with KAS Eupen forward Henry Onyekuru about a potential move this summer, according to reports (via Sport Witness).

The 19-year-old striking sensation has been in scintillating form for the Belgian side this term, scoring 19 goals and laying on nine assists in 37 appearances in all competitions, including 12 goals and seven assists in the First Division.

That includes five goals in six games for Eupen in their First Division play-off campaign, and with six goals last term to help them achieve promotion to the top-flight, Onyekuru has clearly been one of the most in-form forwards in the country over the last 18 months.

And it’s form which has attracted interest from the Premier League, with Ronald Koeman’s Everton and Claude Puel’s Southampton reportedly keeping tabs on the Nigerian forward.

In fact, the duo have reportedly met with the player and his representatives about a potential move this summer as both clubs look to strengthen in a bid to move to the next level next season.

Koeman’s Toffees may lose striker Romelu Lukaku this summer and will thus need attacking reinforcements to keep Everton in and around the top six, while Puel’s Saints have managed just 39 Premier League goals this term, and clearly need greater striking talent next term.

However, it is reported that Onyekuru may cost the two sides €15 million, and although they would have the financial capabilities of such deal, it may be seen as a risk given that this is his first full season at top-flight level.

Nonetheless, at just 19 years of age, Onyekuru could go on to become the main man at either Goodison Park or St Mary’s in years to come should any deal materialise this summer.
