Everton are reportedly trying to lure Spain international Juan Mata to Goodison Park this summer, according to the Telegraph.

The Premier League side, who finished 11th in the English top-flight standings under former boss Roberto Martinez last term, have been heavily linked with a move for the Manchester United midfielder ahead of the forthcoming 2016/17 campaign.

The 28-year-old; who has 40 international caps for his country, but was not included in Spain’s 23-man squad for EURO 2016 this summer, scored 10 goals and provided 11 assists in 54 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils last season.

Mata, who arrived at Old Trafford from Chelsea back in January 2014 following his £37.1m move, is being tipped to leave United following the appointment of former Blues boss Jose Mourinho and the imminent arrival of fellow central midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Borussia Dortmund.

New Toffees boss Ronald Koeman is keen on bringing the Spanish star to Everton ahead of his debut campaign in charge, with the report suggesting an offer of around £20m is in the pipeline.
