Everton give up on Barkley deal

Everton have reluctantly agreed to accept offers for Ross Barkley.

According to a report in the Daily Mirror there has been no movement or offer from the players representatives towards accepting a £100,000/week five year contract.

While that would make him the highest paid player in the clubs’ history it could quickly be overtaken by new arrivals with Gylfi Sigurdsson of Swansea indicating that he’d be looking for more than that figure to quit the Welsh side.

Manchester United, Arsenal and Spurs have all been linked with Barkley with Everton hoping for a quick sale in the region of £50m to allow Ronald Koeman to plan ahead.

The Dutchman has taken a hard line to the contract saga and warned the midfielder that he’ll be left out of the team if he refuses a new deal.

Sticking it out at Everton for a further year is unlikely to be an option as Barkley attempts to win a place in the England World Cup team.
