Ronald Koeman has somewhat of a fancy for targeting players from his former clubs, in his time in the Premier League the Dutchman has signed the likes of Jordy Clasie, Graziano Pelle, Maarten Stekelenburg, twice, and Morgan Schniederlin having worked with all of them at previous clubs.
He looks to be continuing that trend this summer, with recent reports linking him with a move for right-back Cuco Martina in the wake of Seamus Coleman’s horrific injury.
The Curacoa international, who was signed for the Saints by Koeman from FC Twente in 2015, has been released by the Saints, the club have announced.
The 27-year-old will be most remembered by fans at St. Mary’s for his outstanding opening goal in a 4-0 win over Arsenal, however, with Claude Puel having brought in another right-back in Jeremy Pied last summer, his services are no longer required.
Southampton have also released young winger Lloyd Isgrove, emergency signing Martin Caceres and striker Harley Willard but it’s now over to Koeman and the powers that be at Goodison Park to get talking over a deal for Martina.
